Ok, so i have gotten the question "how does buying stuff you DON'T need save you money?" And it's hard to explain so i thought i'd show you exactly how it can work with examples of my shopping trip this morning! So here is the breakdown....
I started by buying B1G1 ANY speedstick deodorant up to 3.99 coupons off ebay that finally arrived last night (yay!) for 2.29 + free shipping i ordered 20 (they usually come in 10's or 20's and a lot of the time it's cheaper to buy 20 then 10. NO clue why...) so it came out to .11 cents a coupon
Then I went to 3 different CVS (I have 5 around me, that way I don't take ALL of the stores stuff)
CVS is having a deal spend 15$ on speedstick get 5 ECB back for next purchase.
same transaction 3 times....
BUY 8 deodorant USE 4 B1G1 coupons
subtotal 0.00
tax = 1.14
The 1st 2 transactions I paid for the tax and then I remembered that I had 10 cash cards from last weeks purchases at CVS so the other transactions i used that to pay for the tax so i literally spent nothing OOP (after the 1st 2) if you don't have any cash cards it would've been 3.42.
So my total was 2.28 OOP at the store and 1.37 for the 12 coupons 3.65 TOTAL and got back 15 ECB!
I then bought 2 boxes of pampers diapers. They were 50% off of 22.99 so 11.49 each. (22.98)
I used 2 $1.50/1 coupons bringing the total down to 19.98 and then used 15ECB making my TOTAL OOP with tax 6.65 for 192 diapers! In diaper language you always talk about how much per diaper they were to see if you get a good deal. Before amazon changed it's policy i would get diapers for around .11 a diaper this makes it .03 a diaper!
***random side-note*** And I know that pampers is a more expensive brand but it's the only brand of diapers that i have ever liked. I have recently started using target diapers and those are great but obviously with this deal these are even cheaper then those! So basically if huggies diapers works for your kids you could probably snatch up an even better deal because they are cheaper AND they always have 2.00 coupons (instead of the 1.50) my kids just pee through huggies diapers like it's nothing lol
And before i get called a hoarder for buying so much deodorant because by now you guys are probably thinking... hmmmmm 20 B1G1 coupons that means 40 sticks of deodorant!!! You don't have to keep everything you buy. I bought my dads favorite kind so i'm going to give him some and then there are SO many different charities or places or people that would be SO grateful for the things that you can get for "free" (you will have to pay tax) or in these cases it benefits me JUST as much (probably more) then those who i'm going to be able to help :)
So summed up.... My total haul for today was 40 deodorants & 1 body wash 192 diapers for a total of 8.93 & i still have 10 ECB to spend next time! :)
Buying stuff YOU don't need (or don't need that much of) can benefit you! WHY?
--You can give it to friends or family (or you could sell it on ebay, i've thought of doing that, it would be like another little tiny income for the family)
--Give it to charities- (ex. my sister-in-law & I are going to start giving to hospice & having our kids make pictures to bring along)
--I found this idea on pinterest and i LOVE doing it and so does dylan, he always draws pictures to put inside http://kwavs.blogspot.com/2011/05/blessing-bags-how-to.html I think that sometimes (ok maybe a lot) I feel selfish after making these because I feel SO happy for everything in my life that in the end I get more out of it then anyone else does.)
Alrighty i hope that answers some questions. If not just facebook me or something :D
